The
EDI 943 Warehouse Stock Transfer Shipment Advice transaction set is an advance ship notice to a remote warehouse that a transfer shipment has been made from the manufacturer. The 943 transaction may also be used by manufacturers to authorize a warehouse to accept a return from a customer.
Unlike the
856 Advance Ship Notice, which is used to notify customers of shipments, the 943 is specifically for shipments to third-party warehouse locations. The 943 typically provides the receiving location with detailed information regarding the product being shipped. This may include:
- Date of shipment
- Manufacturer of goods
- Receiving warehouse identification and location
- Ship-from location address
- Carrier information
- Item information including item number, quantity, unit of measure, etc.
Once the shipment referenced in the 943 transaction has been received by the warehouse, the warehouse transmits a
944 Warehouse Receipt Advice transaction back to the manufacturer. Exchanging this information via EDI is important to streamlining the process, reducing administrative costs for the warehouse and ensuring timely and accurate inventory information for the manufacturer.

This X12 Transaction Set contains the format and establishes the data contents of the Warehouse Stock Transfer Shipment Advice Transaction Set (943) for use within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment. The transaction set can be used by a depositor or an agent of the depositor to advise the recipient that a transfer shipment has been made. This transaction set provides a receiving location with detail information concerning product being shipped to that location.
